Angel Paglia Wins USA Qualifier: Keiko Yukawa and Akimi Kajitani Win Tokyo Qualifier for Women's World 10-Ball Championship in Manila
Orlando, Florida- Angel Paglia of the USA won the first qualifier held for the Women's World 10-Ball Championship at Corner Pocket Billiards in Orlando, Florida. Meanwhile Japanese pros Keiko Yukawa and Akimi Kajitani qualified in Japan. Thr trio will join the 48 top women pros from around the world will enter the historic event produced by Dragon Promotions. The event is supported by JBETpoker.net, ABS-CBN, SM Mall North Edsa, Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Bugsy Promotions and recognized by the BMPAP and BSCP.
Angel Paglia was dominant in her earned win during
the qualifier for the Women's World 10-Ball Championship.
Paglia defeated Michell Monk 7-4, then bested fellow touring pro Rachel Abbink in a close 7-6 match and then played a superb set against former top five ranked Mary Kenniston shutting her out 7-0. Top Florida pro Jeannie Seaver was upsetted by Michell Monk and then knocked out by Kim Jones. The re-match with Abbink in the finals against went to Paglia this time at 7-5.
In Tokyo, 20 women showed up from around Japan to win the two available spots. Keiko Yukawa and Akimi Kajitani came out ahead of the pack as the winners. Kajitani has finished 3rd in past World Championships and is a numerous times national champion of Japan and is Japan's best hope of winning the Women's World 10-Ball.
Open qualifiers for the event will be held May 31 and June 1 in Manila. May 31 location will be set soon while June 1 will be set at SM Mall North Edsa. All players are welcomed to join to try to qualify for the event. There will be three qualifiers over the two days with three winners entered into the main 48 women field. The event is sanctioned by the World Pool and Billiard Association . The historic event is considered to be the biggest women's sporting event of the year for the Philippines, and will have massive media attention including 25 hours of live coverage on ABS-CBN, the leading TV channel of the Philippines. 48 women from around the globe will attend the event vying for $20,000 (1M) 1st place prize out of the $75,000 (3.75M) purse available.
