Results of Philadelphia Qualifier:Drexeline Billiard Club
Saturday March 25 2006

Drexeline Billiard Club has opened at 7:00 am to host a 14.1 straight pool qualifying tournament, backed by Dragon Promotions. The stakes are qualification for the first and second place finishers. A $500.00 value each, that gets these two players a birth in the 14.1World Straight Pool Championships May 30 thru June 4, 2006. The field at Drexeline was medium with 14 players showing up from, Rhode Island, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and our own Philadelphia crew. It was great to see so many spectators as they were really looking forward to some straight pool. There might of been only 14 players in the event but the spectators probably out numbered the players 5-1. It was really nice to see such a positive turn out.

Match summery as follows: The real highlight of the tourney was Matt Tetrault from the New England States. Matt won his first two matches against veterans of the game, first Trenton Marty Ciccia always a tough man to beat, then former Philadelphian and super strong city player Ed Deska, but could not knock off three Philly boys in a row taking a seat on the losers side of the board compliments the sneaky Eddy Abrahams. Matt then continued his mission to win three matches in a row beating first a very good New Jersey boy Carmen Lombardo in a long grueling match, then locking horns with Robert Madenjian in a slug em out match, then playing Ed Abrahams for the second qualification birth. Matt all day was shooting very solid, but it was obvious he is abit green with his straight pool patterns as he was Mr. Shot Maker to seal the deal against Mr. Abrahams who was dead tired from a long day. Matt is a young buck who looked like he was there for a reason. Matt looks to me like an up and coming player. Good job Matt.

High runs: Did not hear of any large runs but the field was very steady with many 30s 40s and 50s. No one was a pushover. Safety play was premium. The Gold Crown 4s that were used just happen to have tight double shims an it was a humid day adding to the difficulty. Great sportsmanship was exercised and all the players as well as fans loved the event.Bob Maidhof & Drexeline Billiard Club would like to thank Charlie Williams & Dragon Promotions for giving us the opportunity to host this event.
